OUR STORY

With our humble beginnings over 30 years ago as a ‘mom & pop’ vegan and vegetarian catering service in Portland, Oregon, our delicious, innovative meat-free creations set the stage for Higher Taste as we know it today. Garnering rave reviews and a dedicated local following, our refrigerated ‘ready to eat’ sandwiches, burritos and salads started popping up throughout Oregon’s local cafes, grocery stores, universities, and hospitals and have since become a celebrated favorite throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond!

In 1995, we collaborated with Seth Tibbott of Turtle Island Foods to conceptualize and market our unique creation, The Original Tofurky Roast! This game-changing “meat alternative” has been featured everywhere from The Wall Street Journal to the The History Channel and become the foundation of the modern plant-based food industry the world over. The ongoing partnership also conceived the very first of their kind Plant-Based Sausages which include Tofurky’s Original Italian, Kielbasa, and Beer Brats. The rest is history!

Currently, our complete line of natural foods including frozen Burritos, refrigerated ‘Buzzitos’, ‘Happy Hoagies’, and ‘Hanzi’s Famous Salads’ are prepared by hand in our newly designed 17,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Cornelius, Oregon using the freshest, locally-sourced, high quality ingredients by our dedicated and accomplished team. Since 1987, Higher Taste has been committed to crafting flavorful, healthy, convenient, and affordable meatless natural foods that everyone can enjoy. We feel so very fortunate that our family-owned business has become part of your lives and community, while our food has found its way into your hearts.
